Have you ever pressed send on a text message only to look back at your outbox 2 minutes later in horror at what you sent? Have you ever looked hopelessly at a received text message wracking your brain with no idea how to respond? Need ideas on how t odraft love text messages that will make you more attractive?
The trick with text messages is understanding their unique place in communication. Text messages can enrich your interactions with others or they can sink them. Here are 3 useful principles to remember when drafting texts:
1. Texts can make great icebreakers but by nature they are an informal method of communication and should be used accordingly. NEVER send a formal date or meet-up request by text unless it flows naturally from the conversation, more about this later. Start out by throwing out an engaging and interest inspiring comment. Something like ‘I saw the cutest animal and thought of you.’ The point of such a message is to elicit interest and make them want to respond. Keep in mind that as you progress in a relationship this becomes less necessary and is really only at the beginning when you are in chase mode. This kind of love text messages will ensure attraction stays strong throughout your relationship.
2. If you haven’t asked a question, don’t expect an answer. The cardinal sin with texts is sending follow-up texts without receiving a response. Imagine you haven’t looked at your phone and you flip it open to see 3 back-to-back texts from someone you barely know. Pretty pathetic huh. The point with texts is that you don’t have to respond to them unless they have a question and even than at your discretion. So make sure you ask a question if you need a response, and never send love text messages back-to-back without a response. The other thing to keep in mind that I talk to alot of people who think that once they text someone they can’t cal them. To me texts and calls are mutually exclusive. Now I’m not advocating texting and than calling 5 minutes later, but just because someone hasn’t responded to your text, doesn’t mean you can’t call them.
Sidenote: One method I have used with success is when I am texting a couple times back and forth I call, as the other person obviously is at their phone and has time. This allows you to avoid the dreaded answering machine of doom.
3. Timing of texts can be CRITICAL from a couple angles. First the time between texts. If you are always responding to texts right away than you seem too eager. While games are never advisable, it is important that you seem like you have a life outside of your phone at least at first. A rule of thumb is to never allow texts to disrupt what you are currently doing. So if you are shopping for groceries wait until you are done to text back. Of course this rule goes out the window based on the second aspect of text timing, the actual clock time at which the message was sent. If someone sends you a love text messages at 2am saying they are ‘bored’ you might want to respond pretty quick
